P0267 Cylinder 3 injector A circuit low

What P0267 means

The engine computer sees a voltage that is too low in the control circuit of the cylinder 3 fuel injector. Usually the control wire is shorted to ground or the injector coil is shorted. Depending on the fault, the injector may stay shut, causing a misfire, or stay open and flood cylinder 3 with fuel.

P0267 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Injector control wire shorted to ground (chafed harness)
  2. Internally shorted cylinder 3 injector coil
  3. Corroded or damaged injector connector
  4. Engine control unit injector driver fault (rare)

Can I keep driving with P0267?

You can drive gently, but have it checked within one to two weeks. If cylinder 3 misfires, the engine smells of fuel or the check engine light flashes, stop driving: excess fuel can dilute the oil and damage the catalytic converter.

What to check first

  1. Inspect the cylinder 3 injector connector and harness for chafing against metal edges.
  2. Measure the cylinder 3 injector coil resistance and compare it with the other injectors.
  3. With the injector unplugged, check the control wire for a short to ground.
  4. Replace the injector or repair the wiring, depending on what the tests show.
