P024E Charge air cooler bypass position sensor A circuit low

What P024E means

Some turbocharged engines have a bypass flap that lets intake air skip the charge air cooler (intercooler), for example to warm up faster or to help regeneration. P024E means the sensor that reports the flap position is giving a voltage below its normal range. The engine computer can no longer confirm where the flap is.

P024E is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Faulty bypass position sensor
  2. Signal wire shorted to ground
  3. Broken 5 V reference wire to the sensor
  4. Corroded or loose connector
  5. Bypass actuator assembly failure (sensor integrated)

Can I keep driving with P024E?

You can drive, but have it checked within one or two weeks. The car may limit boost or emissions functions until it is repaired.

What to check first

  1. Inspect the bypass valve connector and wiring for damage or oil contamination
  2. Check the 5 V reference, ground and signal voltage at the sensor
  3. Command the bypass flap with a scan tool and watch the position reading
  4. Replace the sensor or actuator assembly if wiring and supply are good
