P0451 EVAP pressure sensor/switch A range/performance
What P0451 means
The engine control unit sees fuel tank pressure readings that do not make sense for the conditions, for example not changing when the system is sealed or vented. This prevents a reliable EVAP leak test.
P0451 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Usually no change in driving
- Sometimes problems filling the tank
Common causes
- Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor
- Blocked or kinked EVAP vent hose or a stuck vent valve
- Loose or wrong fuel cap
- Poor connection at the sensor
Can I keep driving with P0451?
You can keep driving, but have it checked within one to two weeks.
What to check first
- Check the fuel cap is the correct type and seals properly
- Watch the tank pressure value in live data with the cap off; it should read close to zero
- Inspect the vent hose, vent valve and sensor connector
- Replace the pressure sensor if it reads wrong with the tank open to air
