P0463 Fuel level sensor A circuit high
What P0463 means
The engine control unit sees a fuel level sensor voltage above its normal range, which usually means an open circuit somewhere between the sender and the control unit. The fuel gauge reading is unreliable.
P0463 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Fuel gauge stuck at empty or full
- Gauge needle dropping suddenly
- Range display incorrect
Common causes
- Open circuit in the fuel level sender (worn track)
- Disconnected or corroded sender connector
- Broken signal or ground wire
- Faulty fuel level sender
Can I keep driving with P0463?
You can keep driving, but do not rely on the fuel gauge. Track your mileage and have it checked within one to two weeks.
What to check first
- Inspect the connector on the fuel pump/sender unit
- Check the sender ground and signal wires for continuity
- Measure sender resistance across its range
- Replace the sender if it shows an open circuit
