P0868 Transmission fluid pressure low
What P0868 means
The transmission control unit has detected that hydraulic pressure in the gearbox is too low. Low pressure lets clutches slip and wear quickly, so the unit may restrict operation.
P0868 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Harsh, delayed or slipping shifts
- Limp mode
- Delayed engagement into Drive or Reverse
- Transmission warning on
Common causes
- Low transmission fluid level from a leak
- Blocked transmission filter
- Worn transmission oil pump
- Faulty line pressure control solenoid
- Faulty fluid pressure sensor
Can I keep driving with P0868?
You can drive carefully, but have it checked within one to two weeks, sooner if the gearbox slips. Low pressure causes rapid clutch wear.
What to check first
- Check fluid level and look for leaks under the car
- Check the fluid condition
- Have line pressure measured with a gauge
- Replace the filter, pressure solenoid or pump as found
