P2637 Torque management feedback signal A

What P2637 means

During gear changes, the transmission computer asks the engine computer to reduce torque briefly so shifts are smooth. The engine confirms this through a torque management feedback signal. P2637 means that feedback signal is missing or implausible, so shifts may become harsh.

P2637 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Damaged wiring or connector between engine and transmission computers
  2. Fault in the CAN bus connection
  3. Low battery voltage or poor grounds
  4. Software mismatch between engine and transmission computers
  5. Faulty engine or transmission control module

Can I keep driving with P2637?

You can drive, but have it checked within one or two weeks. Avoid hard acceleration if shifts are harsh.

What to check first

  1. Read codes from both the engine and transmission computers
  2. Check battery voltage and module grounds
  3. Inspect wiring and connectors between the two modules
  4. Check for software updates for both modules before replacing either
