P2418 EVAP system switching valve control circuit/open
What P2418 means
Some EVAP leak detection systems use a switching valve to change between normal venting and the leak test. P2418 means the engine computer found an open circuit in that valve's control circuit. The leak test cannot run, but driving is not affected.
P2418 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Car drives normally
- EVAP readiness monitor not complete
- Technical inspection failure
Common causes
- Failed EVAP switching valve
- Broken or corroded wiring near the canister
- Corroded connector
- Blown fuse
- Engine computer driver fault (rare)
Can I keep driving with P2418?
Yes, you can keep driving. Have it repaired within one or two weeks.
What to check first
- Locate the switching valve near the canister and check the connector
- Measure valve resistance
- Check supply voltage and wiring continuity
- Replace the valve or repair the wiring
