P2635 Fuel pump A low flow/performance

What P2635 means

The engine computer monitors whether the fuel pump delivers the expected fuel flow or pressure for the command it gives. P2635 means the pump is underperforming. The engine can run lean, lose power under load or stall.

P2635 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Worn fuel pump
  2. Clogged fuel filter or pump strainer
  3. Voltage drop from poor wiring, connector or relay
  4. Faulty fuel pressure regulator
  5. Faulty fuel pump control module

Can I keep driving with P2635?

You can drive, but have it checked within one or two weeks. Avoid running the tank low, which can make the problem worse.

What to check first

  1. Check fuel pressure and volume with a gauge
  2. Replace the fuel filter if it is due
  3. Check voltage at the pump while running
  4. Replace the fuel pump or control module if pressure and voltage confirm it
