U0415 Invalid data received from ABS control module

What U0415 means

The ABS module broadcasts wheel speed and braking data to other modules such as the engine, gearbox and instrument cluster. U0415 means one of those modules is receiving messages from the ABS module that are present but implausible. The real fault is often inside the ABS system itself, such as a failed wheel speed sensor.

U0415 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Faulty wheel speed sensor or damaged tone ring
  2. Fault code already stored in the ABS module
  3. Low battery voltage or poor ABS module ground
  4. Damaged CAN bus wiring or corroded ABS connector
  5. ABS module software or internal fault

Can I keep driving with U0415?

Normal braking still works, but ABS and stability control may be disabled. Drive with extra care, especially on wet or icy roads, and have it checked within one or two weeks.

What to check first

  1. Read codes in the ABS module and repair any wheel speed sensor or ABS faults first
  2. Compare all four wheel speeds in live data while driving
  3. Check battery voltage and the ABS module power, ground and connector
  4. Check for ABS module software updates before considering replacement
