P0019 Crankshaft/camshaft position correlation, bank 2 sensor B (exhaust)

What P0019 means

The engine computer compares crankshaft position with the exhaust camshaft on bank 2 (the side without cylinder 1). P0019 means they are out of the expected relationship. This often points to timing chain stretch or a jumped tooth, which can cause serious engine damage.

P0019 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Stretched timing chain or worn tensioner and guides
  2. Timing chain jumped a tooth or set wrongly after repair
  3. Sticking exhaust VVT solenoid or worn phaser on bank 2
  4. Faulty camshaft or crankshaft position sensor
  5. Low or dirty engine oil

Can I keep driving with P0019?

Do not keep driving if the engine rattles or runs roughly; it is safest to have the car towed. A jumped timing chain can cause serious engine damage.

What to check first

  1. Check oil level and condition
  2. Read bank 2 exhaust camshaft correlation values in live data
  3. Inspect the sensors and wiring
  4. Have timing chain, tensioner and timing marks checked
