P0345 Camshaft position sensor A circuit (bank 2)

What P0345 means

The engine computer is not receiving a usable signal from camshaft position sensor A on bank 2, the side of a V or boxer engine without cylinder 1. It uses this signal to identify cylinder position and control valve timing on that bank.

P0345 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Failed camshaft position sensor
  2. Damaged wiring or loose, oil-soaked connector
  3. Damaged camshaft target wheel
  4. Timing chain stretched or jumped on bank 2

Can I keep driving with P0345?

Get it checked within a few days. The engine may be hard to start or stall, and variable valve timing on bank 2 may be disabled.

What to check first

  1. Inspect the bank 2 camshaft sensor connector and wiring for oil and damage.
  2. Check supply voltage, ground and signal while cranking.
  3. Inspect the sensor tip and target wheel.
  4. Check camshaft timing if other timing codes are present, then replace the sensor if needed.
