P0346 Camshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance (bank 2)

What P0346 means

The camshaft position sensor A on bank 2 is producing a signal, but it is erratic or does not line up with the crankshaft signal as expected. This can be a sensor or wiring fault, or a real timing problem such as a stretched timing chain.

P0346 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  2. Failing camshaft position sensor
  3. Damaged camshaft target wheel
  4. Wiring interference or poor connection
  5. Variable valve timing fault on bank 2

Can I keep driving with P0346?

Get it checked within a few days. If the cause is a timing chain problem, continued driving can lead to serious engine damage.

What to check first

  1. Read all codes: camshaft-crankshaft correlation codes alongside P0346 point to a timing problem.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 sensor connector and wiring.
  3. Inspect the sensor tip and target wheel, and replace the sensor if it is faulty.
  4. If the code returns, check camshaft timing and timing chain stretch.
