P0352 Ignition coil B primary control circuit/open

What P0352 means

The engine computer switches each ignition coil on and off through a control circuit. P0352 means it detected an open circuit or incorrect signal on the circuit for coil B, which is usually the coil for cylinder 2. That cylinder will often misfire as a result.

P0352 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Failed ignition coil for cylinder 2
  2. Loose, corroded or broken coil connector
  3. Damaged wiring between coil and engine computer
  4. Missing power supply to the coil (fuse or relay)
  5. Engine computer driver fault (rare)

Can I keep driving with P0352?

You can drive a short distance, but get it repaired within one or two weeks, sooner if the engine misfires. Prolonged misfiring can damage the catalytic converter.

What to check first

  1. Check the coil connector is fully clipped on and free of corrosion
  2. Swap the coil with another cylinder and see if the code follows it
  3. Check coil power supply and the control wire continuity to the engine computer
  4. Replace the coil if faulty; repair wiring if the fault stays with the circuit
