P0341 Camshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance (bank 1)

What P0341 means

The engine computer uses the camshaft position sensor, together with the crankshaft sensor, to time fuel injection and ignition. P0341 means the camshaft signal is present but implausible, with missing or extra pulses or a mismatch with the crankshaft. This can point to a failing sensor or to a timing chain or belt problem.

P0341 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Failing camshaft position sensor
  2. Stretched timing chain or jumped belt
  3. Damaged camshaft trigger wheel
  4. Damaged wiring or interference from nearby high-voltage leads
  5. Oil contamination in the sensor connector

Can I keep driving with P0341?

Have it checked as soon as possible. If the timing has jumped, continued driving can damage the valves, and the engine may stall without warning.

What to check first

  1. Inspect the sensor connector for oil, corrosion or damage
  2. Check the sensor signal with a scope or watch camshaft and crankshaft correlation in live data
  3. Replace the camshaft sensor if its signal is faulty
  4. If the problem persists, check timing chain or belt alignment
