P0717 Input/turbine shaft speed sensor A no signal
What P0717 means
The transmission control unit sees no signal at all from the input shaft speed sensor while the engine is running and the car is moving. It usually holds a fixed gear to protect the gearbox.
P0717 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Gearbox stuck in one gear
- Harsh engagement into Drive or Reverse
- Transmission warning on
Common causes
- Failed input shaft speed sensor
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Disconnected or corroded connector
- Internal gearbox harness fault
Can I keep driving with P0717?
You can drive gently to a workshop, but have it checked within one to two weeks.
What to check first
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring
- Measure sensor resistance and check for an open circuit
- Check the internal harness on gearboxes with an internal sensor
- Replace the sensor
