P0200 Injector circuit / open

What P0200 means

The engine computer has detected an electrical fault in the fuel injector circuits but has not pinned it to a single cylinder. This often points to a shared part of the circuit, such as the injector power supply, a common connector or the computer's injector drivers. One or more cylinders may not be getting fuel.

P0200 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Open or damaged wiring in the injector harness or a common connector
  2. Blown fuse or faulty relay supplying the injectors
  3. Failed injector coil (open or shorted)
  4. On common-rail diesels, a fault in the injector supply or power stage
  5. Engine control unit injector driver fault

Can I keep driving with P0200?

You can usually drive to a workshop, but have it checked within one to two weeks and sooner if the engine misfires. If the check engine light flashes, stop: unburned fuel can overheat the catalytic converter.

What to check first

  1. Read all stored codes: cylinder-specific injector or misfire codes show where to look.
  2. Check the injector fuse and relay, and inspect the main injector harness connector for corrosion or damage.
  3. Measure each injector's coil resistance and compare them with each other and with the specification.
  4. Check injector supply voltage and the control pulse with a test light or oscilloscope before suspecting the engine control unit.
