P02D1 Cylinder 3 fuel injector offset learning at maximum limit

What P02D1 means

The engine computer continuously learns small corrections for each injector so that every cylinder gets the right amount of fuel. P02D1 means the correction for cylinder 3 has reached its maximum limit and cannot compensate any further. This normally means injector 3 is delivering the wrong amount of fuel.

P02D1 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Worn, sticking or leaking injector on cylinder 3
  2. Injector coding (correction value) not entered after replacement
  3. Excessive injector leak-off on a diesel
  4. Low compression on cylinder 3
  5. Wiring fault to injector 3

Can I keep driving with P02D1?

You can drive, but have it checked within one or two weeks. A badly leaking injector can cause engine damage over time.

What to check first

  1. Check that the correct injector code is programmed if injectors have been replaced
  2. Compare injector correction values for all cylinders in live data
  3. Do a leak-off test on diesel injectors
  4. Replace or recondition injector 3 and code it to the engine computer
