P2004 Intake manifold runner control stuck open (bank 1)
What P2004 means
The engine control unit commanded the intake manifold runner flaps to close but the position feedback shows they stayed open. Low-speed torque and idle quality may suffer.
P2004 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Reduced low-speed power
- Rough idle
- Rattling from the intake manifold
Common causes
- Carbon deposits jamming the runner flaps
- Broken or disconnected flap linkage
- Failed runner control actuator or vacuum solenoid
- Leaking vacuum hose to the actuator
- Faulty runner position sensor
Can I keep driving with P2004?
You can keep driving, but have it checked within one to two weeks. Broken flaps can in rare cases be drawn into the engine.
What to check first
- Check that the flap linkage moves freely by hand
- Inspect the actuator, its connector and any vacuum hoses
- Command the flaps with a scan tool and watch the position value
- Clean the manifold or replace the actuator or manifold
