P00AF Turbocharger/supercharger boost control A module performance
What P00AF means
Many modern turbos are controlled by an electronic actuator with its own control module. P00AF means that module reports it cannot position the wastegate or variable vanes correctly, or has an internal fault. Boost is usually limited and the car goes into limp mode.
P00AF is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Loss of power or limp mode
- No turbo boost
- Whining or clicking from the actuator
Common causes
- Sticking variable vanes or wastegate from carbon build-up
- Failed electronic turbo actuator
- Actuator needs calibration after replacement
- Wiring or power supply fault to the actuator
- Worn turbocharger
Can I keep driving with P00AF?
Have it checked within a day or two. Power will be limited, and continued driving can cause further damage to the turbo.
What to check first
- Check the actuator power, ground and connector
- Run an actuator test or calibration with a scan tool
- Check that the vane or wastegate linkage moves freely
- Replace the actuator or turbo depending on test results
