P0110 Intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit (bank 1)

What P0110 means

The engine computer has a problem with the signal from the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. On many cars this sensor is built into the mass air flow sensor. The computer uses a default temperature instead, so fuelling and ignition are slightly less precise.

P0110 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Failed intake air temperature sensor
  2. Damaged wiring or a broken wire
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Faulty MAF sensor where the IAT is integrated

Can I keep driving with P0110?

You can keep driving. Have it checked within one to two weeks; the engine runs on a default value and the effect is mostly small.

What to check first

  1. Find where the IAT sensor is fitted on your engine (separate in the intake, or part of the MAF) and check its connector.
  2. Read the live IAT value with a cold engine: it should be close to the outside temperature.
  3. Measure the sensor resistance and compare it with the specification for the current temperature.
  4. Repair wiring or replace the sensor (or the MAF assembly if the IAT is integrated).
