P0112 Intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit low (bank 1)

What P0112 means

The voltage from the intake air temperature sensor is below range, which the engine computer reads as an extremely high air temperature. It ignores the sensor and uses a default value.

P0112 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Internally shorted IAT sensor
  2. Signal wire shorted to ground
  3. Moisture or corrosion in the connector
  4. Faulty MAF sensor with integrated IAT

Can I keep driving with P0112?

You can keep driving. Have it checked within one to two weeks; it does not normally harm the engine.

What to check first

  1. Read the live IAT value: a reading far above the real temperature confirms the fault.
  2. Unplug the sensor: if the reading drops to a very low value, the wiring is fine and the sensor is shorted.
  3. If the reading stays high with the sensor unplugged, look for the signal wire shorted to ground.
  4. Dry and clean the connector, then replace the sensor if needed.
