P0113 Intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit high (bank 1)

What P0113 means

The voltage from the intake air temperature sensor is above range, which the engine computer reads as extremely cold air (often around -40 °C in live data). This usually means the circuit is open. The computer uses a default value instead.

P0113 is a generic SAE J2012 code: it means the same on every make. The exact cause still depends on the car, so read the freeze-frame data before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Common causes

  1. Sensor connector left unplugged, for example after air filter work
  2. Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
  3. Failed IAT sensor
  4. Corroded or loose connector pins

Can I keep driving with P0113?

You can keep driving and check it when convenient. The engine runs normally on a default value, with at most a small increase in fuel consumption.

What to check first

  1. Check that the IAT (or MAF) connector is plugged in, especially if the air filter was recently changed.
  2. Read the live IAT value; around -40 °C means an open circuit.
  3. Bridge the signal and ground pins at the connector with the key on: if the reading jumps to a very high value, the wiring is good and the sensor has failed.
  4. Repair the wiring or replace the sensor.
